Oakville High School Senior Uses Class To Start Bakery Business

Melina Delkic created a business plan for Melina's Cakes in her entrepreneurship class. The teen bakes and sells her creations at Whole Foods in Kirkwood.

An Oakville High School senior has used an entrepreneurship class to open her own bakery business.

Melina Delkic says learned how to bake at an early age and spent hours in the kitchen with her mother, according to a news release from the Mehlville School District. The class requires students to create a "pretend" company and business plan, so Melina naturally decided to build her business around a bakery.

A panel of experts judged the students' project, and one judge was so impressed that he referred Melina to a friend who owns Global Foods in Kirkwood, the release stated. Melina rents commercial kitchen space at Global Foods, and the company is providing shelf space so she can sell her European desserts.
