Oakville Tiger Football Fine-Tunes Play in Preseason Scrimmage

The Oakville High School football team, led by coach Arlee Conners, hosted a preseason Jamboree Friday.

The football team got its first taste of competition Friday as it hosted a preseason jamboree with seven other schools.

The Tigers faced Hazelwood East, Rockwood Summit and Vianney in a 12-play scrimmage.

Coach Arlee Conners said the competition was key to practicing some of the little things the team needs to work on before the season starts.

“We’re going to make sure our protection is sound, make sure our guys are protecting the quarterback, and make sure everyone understands their assignments,” he said. “That’s the foundation of our offense and I think for the most part, we did that.”

Moe LaGrand scored two touchdowns during the scrimmage, establishing himself as one of the team’s top scorers.

Conners said Ben Howard was solid on defense and tight end Kirby Phillips had good catches and blocks.

The Tigers open their season Aug. 24 against Marquette at home.
