Patrick Keenoy Named Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year

He received the recognition from the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals.

's Patrick Keenoy is the 2011-2012 Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year.

The St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals selected Keenoy after Washington Middle School principal Adam Smith nominated him. 

"My career in education was inspired by all of the great teachers that I had throughout my education," Keenoy said in an email to Patch. "I really enjoyed teaching and now as an administrator, I enjoy coming to work each day trying to make a positive difference."

Keenoy has been with the district for the last 12 years, starting as a student teacher at  and then teaching social studies.

Keenoy said his favorite moment in a classroom comes from his time teaching American Government. The classes would conduct a mock legislature and students would prepare and debate bills and elect a speaker of the house.

"This was always a fun unit to teach and to watch the students get engaged with the content," he said. 

For the past four years, he's been an assistant principal at Washington Middle School. This year, he also became the assistant principal at .
