Pen Pal Program Unites District Second-Graders

Students at Hagemann and Rogers Elementary Schools have been writing to each other all year.

Second-graders at and schools met for the first time April 19 after writing to each other for the last eight months.

The students started a pen pal program at the beginning of the school year, and wrote to each other once a month.

“I’ve never had a pen pal before,” said Hagemann Elementary second-grader Josie Fisher in a district release. “It was cool to get to know someone new.”

The project taught proper letter-writing format for both typed and hand-written notes.

“The students have really enjoyed having pen pals,” said Rogers Elementary second-grade teacher Karen Bridges. “They have to think of new questions to ask their pen pals each time. They’re always so excited to get mail.”

The students met each other face-to-face for the first time on a field trip to Clydesdale Park, where they had a picnic and participated in teambuilding activities.
