Prize Patrol Surprises Teachers with Classroom Grants

The Mehlville/Oakville Foundation awarded 15 teachers with $4,000 in grants for educational projects.

Fifteen teachers in eight schools across the Mehlville School District received a total of $4,000 in grants from the Mehlville-Oakville Foundation.

The foundation surprised the teachers Nov. 28 with balloons and checks for up to $500 to fund educational projects that will enhance the classroom.

“I am so thankful to the Mehlville-Oakville Foundation for awarding this grant to our fifth grade students at Rogers Elementary!” Lisa Meyer said in a district release. Meyer is a Rogers fifth grade teacher who received funding for her project, Colonial Simulation.

“The entire fifth grade class will benefit by participating in a colonial simulation for six weeks. Winning this grant will allow me to create a hands-on historical experience that I know my students will always remember,” she said.

A committee made up of teachers, Superintendent Eric Knost and Mehlville-Oakville Foundation members select the most interesting projects for the grants.
