Rogers Elementary Students Raise More Than $1,100 in MS Walk

All 400 students took part in the walk in support of a reading teacher's husband who has multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system.

Students at Rogers Elementary recently hosted an MS Walk at their school in support of a reading teacher's husband who has the chronic disease.

In the process, they raised more than $1,100, which will be donated to the National Multiple Schlerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that affects the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Kim Rucker, the reading teacher, was honored by the gesture. Rucker said the event brought an awareness of the disease to students, some of whom discovered that relatives and friends of their parents had it.
