Whiz Kid: Anti-Bullying Activist Loves Reading

This week's Whiz Kid is Samantha Inman, a busy eighth grader at Margaret Buerkle Middle School who enjoys excelling in school and is aiming for a memorable last year at Buerkle. Do you know a great kid?  Email sarah.flagg@patch.com.

Accomplishment: Samantha helped her school by co-writing the that provided funds for an anti-bullying program.

Key to Awesomeness: Samantha is an honor student and participates in several honors classes: Spanish I, math and social studies. As to school sports, she enjoys playing volleyball.

Samantha is an active member in Buerkle’s Student Council. This year she is serving as president of the organization.

“It was through Student Council that I became involved in helping with the ‘Step Into My Shoes’ grant. We have a lot planned for the project including, guest speakers, activities, bracelets, personality tests and SIMS t shirts,” Samantha said.

In addition to Student Council, Samantha is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Membership is based on grade point average, good character, demonstrations of responsibility and faculty recommendations. Selected as a candidate in sixth grade and inducted in seventh grade, Samantha is now an eighth grade member.

An avid reader, Samantha enjoys fiction, especially mystery books and the Twilight series.

A home, Samantha is a crafty and musical young woman. She enjoys making collages with Modge Podge. As for drawing, she prefers to do trees, plants and landscapes. She also enjoys listening to hip-hop music and playing her clarinet. 

Snickers, Samantha’s caramel colored cat, is independent but loves to spend quality time with her owner.
