Accomplishment:  Sophia has a beautiful singing voice and loves to use it to entertain people at school and church.

Key to Awesomeness: Sophia Martino will be the first to tell you that she absolutely loves school. Her favorite subjects are art, music, math and social studies.

Sophia is very interested in Christian music and sings regularly at her church, Twin Rivers.

This year Sophia is attending an after-school art program taught by Mrs. Adams- Marks. They will be doing some clay and tie-dye projects that Sophia is especially anxious to try.

An avid reader, Sophia enjoys the series Trading Faces by Julia DeVillers and Jennifer Roy.

“The books are about two twins who are in seventh grade at a new school. They have a lot of fun switching places with each other, but even though they look alike, they are very different from each other,” Sophia said.

Sophia is also a Girl Scout and her leader is Mrs. Sheppard.

“We go on field trips, go to camp, make badges and do service projects. Last year we made filled Easter Eggs for soldiers. That was really fun,” she said.

This past summer Sophia and her family traveled to the Gulf of Mexico on the shores of Alabama. She brought home plenty of seashells from the beach as souvenirs.

Rosie, the Martino family dog, is a black lab that gets plenty of attention from Sophia and her two younger sisters. Their latest feat was to teach Rosie to give high-fives.

Due to muscular dystrophy, Sophia must spend some time in her wheelchair, especially when she is at school. It in no way slows her down.

“I get awesome support from friends and teachers,” she said.
