Whiz Kid: Student Recognized as Beasley's Best

Serawit, a kindergarten student at Beasley Elementary School, was recently recognized for her responsibility.

This week's Whiz Kid is Serawit Lueker, a kindergarten student at  who traveled with her brother, Aman, from Ethiopia to be with their new family in Oakville. Do you know a great kid?  Email sarah.flagg@patch.com.

Accomplishment: Serawit was honored at a school assembly in September. She was chosen as one of Beasley’s Best for her demonstration of the character trait, “Responsibility.”

Key to Awesomeness: Serawit is very happy to attend Beasley Elementary School.

“I made many new friends at school,” Serawit said. “I like the outdoor games, running, recess and gym the best.”

Serawit studies dance at in Oakville and is especially fond of ballet. When she is not dancing to music, she enjoys listening to it on The Disney Channel.

At home, Serawit helps care for the three family kittens, Boris, Karloff and Bella, who are littermates. She loves them all, but Bella is her favorite kitty.

A beginning reader, Serawit enjoys stories about princesses and almost any Disney tale. Sometimes she reads Barbie books as well.

Attending Sunday School at is a favorite weekend activity for Serawit.

“We make things and sing,” Serawit said, who has made many new friends there. She attended the vacation Bible school at Faith this summer and enjoyed it, especially the water day activities.

Girls Scouts is next on Serawit’s list of things to do. She has already joined the Daisies, the group for kindergartners and first graders, and is anxious for the meetings to begin.

This past summer, the Lueker family took a trip to Branson. One of Serawit's favorite attractions was the Dixie Stampede.

“I liked the houses,” Serawit said.
