Area Softball Players Honored With All-Conference Recognition

Suburban South, West and East Conference teams were selected.

SOCCER

The wonderful ride is going to continue all the way to Kansas City for the Oakville boys soccer team.

The Tigers won their 20th game Saturday and it was a huge one as they  in the Class 3 quarterfinals.

Oakville (20-7-1) will play Columbia Rock Bridge (27-3) in the second Class 3 semifinal Friday at 6 p.m. at Blue Springs South High School. Rock Bridge defeated Nixa 2-0.

De Smet (23-4-1) and Lee's Summit West (24-6) match up in the first Class 3 semifinal Friday at 4 p.m. De Smet defeated Francis Howell 1-0 while Lee's Summit West beat Park Hill 1-0 in quarterfinal action Saturday.

The Class 3 championship game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. with the third place game scheduled for noon.

FIELD HOCKEY 

The remarkable season for the Cor Jesu field hockey team ended with a 2-0 loss to Lafayette in the state championship game Nov. 5. The loss snapped a 17-game winning streak for the Chargers, who finished at 20-3.

Postseason recognition begins with several of the fall sports concluded. This week, we look at the all-conference softball teams.

SOFTBALL

Seckman sophomore Alison Szydlowski was named the Player of the Year in the Suburban South Conference. She hit .535 with five homers and 33 RBI. Two other Jaguars were named to the first team: senior infielder Lindsay Schaefer (.471, five homers, 29 RBI) and senior pitcher Madi Leonard (13-4, 1.99 ERA with 175 strikeouts in 102 innings).

Rockwood Summit's Ellie Cooper and Megan Bedenikovic were also named to the first team. Cooper, a junior infielder, hit .481 while Bedenikovic, a senior outfielder, hit .451.

Oakville and Lindbergh each had three players named to the first team in the Suburban West Conference.

Every Tiger choice is an underclassman: junior outfielder Rachel McNamara (.500); junior utility player Savannah Fedorchak (.473, 33 RBI); and freshman infielder Katie Reed (.464).

Lindbergh had a senior, catcher Brittany Miller (.432) and a pair of freshmen, utility player Brittany Stevens (.417, five homers, 32 RBI) and infielder Taylor Poole (.417).

Other area players named to the first team included: Northwest senior outfielder Brittany Fortner (.408); Northwest junior infielder Jamie Doggendorf (.427); and Mehlville junior infielder Amanda Lerbs (.410, four homers).

Affton had five players named to the Suburban East Conference first team, including co-player of the year Amber Sinamon. The junior hit .472 with six hoers and 28 RBI.

Other Cougars named to the first team were: sophomore infielder Hannah Nixon (.365); freshman infielder Jordan Thomure (.323); freshman outfielder Mandy Klemp (.364); and junior utility player Mallory Pappert (.408).

Patch Male Athlete of the Week: Oakville soccer's  Patrick McInerney scored the game's only goal in the first half. 

Patch Female Athlete of the Week: Cor Jesu Field hockey senior Molly Croghan led the Chargers with 18 goals. She had a big goal in the 3-2 semifinal win over Nerinx Hall.
