BALLWIN -- A cold, miserable Friday night at Marquette Stadium ended in celebration and jubilation for the homestanding Marquette Mustangs, who rallied from a two-touchdown, first-half deficit to defeat the visiting Oakville Tigers 16-14 in the MSHSAA district playoff opener for both clubs.
Marquette trailed throughout the entire game, but managed to take the lead when junior quarterback Austin Powers hit senior wide receiver Brad Cruse for a 35-yard touchdown that gave the Mustangs its first advantage of the night.
Powers threw two touchdowns in the second half, both on deep passes up the sideline, to rally Marquette back to victory.
Oakville, which took advantage of three first-half Marquette turnovers, grabbed the lead on a 64-yard touchdown catch by Avion Stevenson and a 19-yard scoring run by Derrick Brown.
