Mehlville Basketball's Chanese Washington To Play College Hoops

Chanese Washington will attend Lindenwood University-Belleville next year and play basketball.

Most coaches are excited to have their players compete at the collegiate level. Although Mehlville High School girls basketball coach Laura Bishop is happy for senior Chanese Washington, she will have a difficult time adjusting to her absence.

"We're going to have to reconstruct our whole offense," Bishop said. "Chanese was our lead scorer and assist-maker for the last four years." 

On Wednesday, Washington signed a letter of intent to attend Lindenwood University-Belleville and play under Coach Annie Ewing.

"I'm going to keep trying to get my teammates the ball and those easy shots," she said. 

Washington said her favorite times as a Panther included both sophomore and senior years and spending time with her teammates.

"I think it's a going to be a great experience for her," Carlton, Washington's father, said.

Her mother, Stephanie, said that she will miss her daughter as she is the youngest and will make the couple empty-nesters.

Washington's career at Mehlville will not soon be forgotten. She is the fourth all-time lead scorer for the Lady Panthers with 1,344 points in her career.
