Oakville and Mehlville Face Unbeaten Teams Friday

The Tigers host Parkway South while Mehlville travels to Lafayette.

What a difference a week made for the Oakville football team.

The Tigers fell to head coach Arlee Conners' alma mater, .

But Oakville rebounded in a positive way in week two with a thrilling . Andy Oliver completed 10 of 14 passes for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jaron Henderson was on the receiving end of both touchdown passes. He had three receptions for 119 yards in the game.

Oakville was also effective on the ground as Moe LaGrand rushed for 82 yards on 20 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.

"As a team we definitely executed better on offense and defense," Conners said. "We are not the team that we feel we can be at this moment. But as we continue to improve each week, we feel like we can get there."

Oakville will have a huge test Friday as the Patriots come off a 42-0 win over Jackson in week two after a 19-6 victory over Fox in the season opener.

"The key to beating Parkway South will be containing their quarterback (Eric Laurent)," Conners said. "I expect them to create ways for him to run the ball and throw on the run."

Mehlville looks for an improved defense in its road game at Lafayette at 7 p.m.

The Panthers, who allowed only seven points in a , gave up 299 yards rushing and 274 in the air in a .

Chayse Brown had a huge game in a losing cause for the Panthers with 236 yards rushing on 24 carries (9.8 average). Three of Brown's rushes resulted in touchdowns.

Lafayette has been involved in a pair of nail-biters to open the 2011 campaign.

The Lancers defeated Eureka 35-28 in week one behind quarterback Dominic Bisesi. The senior completed 21 of 34 passes for 355 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

But Bisesi will not be behind center Friday night as he broke his arm late in the Lancers' 24-21 overtime win over Lindbergh.

Junior Matthew Goro took over at quarterback against the Flyers and guided Lafayette into field goal range in overtime.
