The senior scored three goals as Oakville defeated Rockwood Summit 3-1 Tuesday night at Oakville.

The Tigers will play the winner of the Francis Howell Central versus Hazelwood West game Saturday. Those teams were scheduled to play their sectional Wednesday night.

"Playing in weather like this means nothing to us," Oakville senior Jared Swierk said. "The conditions don't affect us at all. We just go out and play the game."

And Swierk played the game quite well as he scored all three of the Tiger goals. Swierk led the team in scoring in the regular season but this was his first hat trick of the year. He picked a good time for it.

"Jared is a tough guy to defend because of his size," Oakville coach Dave Robben said. "He stepped up and had a big game for us tonight."

Swierk scored the only goal of the opening half in the tenth minute on an assist from Mike Munsell.

He added a goal in the 58th minute on a free kick. The Falcons made things interesting when Justin Thomas scored with less than 15 minutes to play.

But Swierk made sure his high school career was going to last a little longer with a goal with less than five minutes to play.

"It's a total team effort every game," Swierk said. "We win as a team and lose as a team."

And lately it has been a lot of wins. The Tigers take a 19-7-1 record into Saturday's quarterfinals.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Falcons who finished at 22-6-0.

"It was a great year for us," Summit coach Chris Kappler said. "We won 22 games, a district title, a Suburban South title and a couple of tournaments (Hazelwood West and Parkway West).

"Oakville was just too big, too tall and too strong tonight. We played better in the second half after we made some adjustments, but they were the better team tonight."
