All in All, a Very Good Season for the Oakville Tigers Mid States Hockey Team

Goalkeeper Zach Jost stood tall in the nets all season long. Three Tigers were in the all-star game over the weekend.

All in all, this was a very good year for the Oakville Tigers Mid States hockey team. The team had an 18-9 season (6-1-1) in the Southwest Division II, good enough for first place. Altogether, the Tigers powered 118 goals. Junior forward Steve Farina was the team's top goal scorer with 20 this season. Recently, three of the players took part in the all-star game at the Webster Groves rink. They are all seniors—Andrew Kovacich, forward; Luke Hassler, defenseman and Zack Jost, the goalkeeper. The high point of the season was winning the playoff round with Chaminade, a team loaded with potential future junior hockey talent. The Tigers lost the opener of the playoffs to the Red Devils 4-1, then bounced back with a 5-3 win and a 1-0 mini game …

Mehlville Defeats Priory in Founders Cup Hockey Final

Third period goal by Championship MVP Jacob Schaefer seals the deal for the Panthers.

Mehlville Hockey stood strong against Priory in the Founders Cup Championship game Monday night, defeating the Rebels 3-2 at Queeny Park's Greensfelder Recreation Complex.  The Panthers' Jacob Schaefer netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner at the 11:38 mark in the the third period. Priory was led by Ben Kraus, who answered a pair of Mehlville goals in the first period with two of his own within a two-minute stretch. "That's a typical Mehlville hockey, I tell you we've had some leads before and we've blown them before," Mehlville Head Coach Jim Arno said after his team had received medals and the championship plaque for their performance. Mehlville Assistant Football Coach Steps Up to Head Position

Physical education teacher Kent Heinemann was named Mehlville High School's new head coach.

Mehlville High School announced physical education teacher Kent Heinemann would be taking over the position of head football coach. Heinemann has been a football coach at the school for eight years, according to a news release from the school district. Heinemann is no stranger to the Mehlville School District--he graduated from Oakville High School in 1996 before going on to play football at Lindenwood University.  He and his wife, Sarah, have five children. He also coached football for two years at Lindbergh and Kirkwood high schools, according to the news release.   Related articles:
