More than 100 barges broke loose on the Mississippi River at the J.B. Bridge early Sunday, Fox 2 reports. As many as four barges may have hit the bridge prompting Missouri Department of Transportation officials to close it for a short time Sunday morning to conduct inspections, the station reports. Sunday afternoon, the Coast Guard confirmed that 114 barges broke loose from the Port of St. Louis and 10 barges sank, according to Fox 2. Crews spent the day rounding up the barges. An off-duty officer hit a Laclede Gas truck early Wednesday, according to KMOV.
An off-duty St. Louis County police officer has been accused of hitting a Laclede Gas truck with his squad car on Wednesday, KMOV reports. An officer based in North St. Louis County hit the truck at Lemay Ferry Road and Little Broadway and left the scene of the accident, according to KMOV. County Police confirmed to KMOV that an officer left the site, and they are in the process of questioning him. A Laclede Gas spokeperson told KMOV that nobody was injured in the accident. Fox 2 News reports that three lanes of traffic are shut down.
Police officials are trying to clear a serious accident along Interstate 55 at Lindbergh in South St. Louis County. According to Fox 2 News, it looks to be a three vehicle accident. It happened just before 9 a.m. and details are sketchy at this time. The northbound lanes of I-55 are completely closed and traffic is being diverted off at Highway 67 (Lindbergh). A man who crashed into a telephone pole in the Lemay area admitted to St. Louis County police officers that he’d been drinking. “(Expletive), I’ve been drinking since 9 a.m.,” the man told officers, according to a police report. Joel Perrin, 44, of the 9900 block of Brook Avenue in Lemay, was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated as a chronic offender, a class B felony. St. Louis County Police responded to an accident in which Perrin hit a telephone in the 300 block of Arlee Avenue West at 1:29 a.m. April 25. Officers said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol and said Perrin had bloodshot, watery eyes. A blood sample showed Perrin’s blood-alcohol content was at 0.282 percent, police said. A 35-year-old man assaulted his mother, took her car keys, stole her car and later drove it into the former Seven Holy Founders School building in Affton Tuesday, police said. William Hoffee, 35, of the 4900 block of Fyler Avenue in South St. Louis, was charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. St. Louis County Police said Hoffee assaulted his mother at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 9900 block of Pointe South Drive in the Concord area of South St Louis County. He then took her car keys and debit card and left in her vehicle, police said.
