Mighty Moe’s Three TD Runs Lead Oakville Past Fox

Senior Morris "Moe" LaGrand ran wild for the Tigers, with 184 yards and the three touchdowns to lead Oakville to an upset victory on Homecoming night against Fox.

All season long, Fox High running back Jimmy Huskey has been stealing headlines away from more well-known players, who couldn't keep up with the senior's incredible gameday pace, which finds Huskey leading the Suburban West Conference in rushing and scoring. The 6'2, 200-pound speedster had even become the leading candidate to take home the Suburban West Player of the Year award. But Friday night, during Oakville football's Homecoming night celebration, Huskey was upstaged in a big way by Tiger senior Morris LaGrand, who broke out for a season-high 184 yards and three touchdowns to lead Oakville to a stunning 27-0 upset over Fox. "It feels really good to have a game like this," said LaGrand, who simply goes by the ultra-cool nickname 'Moe…

Oakville Fans Overcome Storm, Lead Football to 14-13 Win

Oakville's Carvon Robinson had two interceptions in the one-point win over Lindbergh at home.

After nearly two hours of storms, administrators and coaches decided Oakville and Lindbergh would play football Friday night. But the rain didn’t stop Oakville’s fans as they came out in force, cheering their team to a 14-13 win over Lindbergh at home. “It’s crazy to wait that long, but it’s what we all decided on doing,” Lindbergh coach Tom Beauchamp said. “Going home and restarting all tomorrow you don’t know what’s going to happen. I think Arlee (Conners) and I and the administrators did a good job of making sure it cleared off and we didn’t hardly have any rain.”  See more photos of the game and fans on our Facebook page.  Oakville scored in the first quarter when Derrick Brown rushed in the end zone with two minutes left. With just …

Oakville and Parkway North Battle the Elements and Each Other Friday

The Vikings use several goal-line stands to hold on for a home win against the visiting Tigers.

This is why we have artificial turf. That's what Parkway North Head Coach Bob Bunton said after his Vikings survived a rainy evening against the Oakville Tigers Friday night at Parkway North. The game was played despite heavy downpours as the St. Louis area was drenched by the remnants of Hurricane Isaac. Had the game not been played Friday, it would have been made up early Monday morning. The Vikings were the first team to score, converting a fake punt for a first down in the first half against Oakville (0-2) to take a 6-0 lead at the half. In the second half, the teams traded costly fumbles deep in Parkway North territory. A deep passing play for North was called back on a penalty and on the following play, Jonathan Little broke off a 90…

Oakville Football Opens with Tight Loss on Senior Night

The Tigers fell 10-9 to the Marquette Mustangs at home; Derrick Brown scored Oakville's only touchdown.

In a change of tradition, the Oakville High School football team and cheerleaders celebrated Senior Night at the season opener. But the lively home crowd couldn't help the Tigers as they fell 10-9 to Marquette.  Conners said the 2012 seniors were one of the best groups he’s seen at the school. “They’re going to move on and do some good things athletically and others will move on and do some things academically,” he said. See photos of all the seniors on our Facebook page. Marquette came out strong and scored seven minutes into the game on a pass to Mitch Carr. The Mustangs almost scored again in the first, but Oakville's defense halted them to keep the score 7-0. With two minutes left in the half, Derrick Brown tied the game with a 21-yard…

Oakville Tiger Football Fine-Tunes Play in Preseason Scrimmage

The Oakville High School football team, led by coach Arlee Conners, hosted a preseason Jamboree Friday.

The Oakville football team got its first taste of competition Friday as it hosted a preseason jamboree with seven other schools. The Tigers faced Hazelwood East, Rockwood Summit and Vianney in a 12-play scrimmage. Coach Arlee Conners said the competition was key to practicing some of the little things the team needs to work on before the season starts. “We’re going to make sure our protection is sound, make sure our guys are protecting the quarterback, and make sure everyone understands their assignments,” he said. “That’s the foundation of our offense and I think for the most part, we did that.” Moe LaGrand scored two touchdowns during the scrimmage, establishing himself as one of the team’s top scorers. Conners said Ben Howard was solid …

Ben Howard, Andy Oliver to Lead Experienced Oakville Football Team

The Tigers will return experienced players on both offense and defense for the fall 2012 season. Do you think a conference title is in their future?

The Oakville football team has a lot to look forward to this season with its quarterback, top running back and main defenseman returning to the starting line-up. The Tigers went 5-6 in 2011, just under the .500 mark. Head coach Arlee Conners thinks Oakville can take a conference title with quarterback Andy Oliver and middle linebacker Ben Howard leading the team. (For more photos of the team and live updates, check out our Facebook page). Oliver, a junior, returns after his first full season as a quarterback last year. He completed 97 of 170 passes for 1,612 yards and had 15 touchdowns with seven interceptions.  “He showed a lot last year,” Conners said. “He took control of the quarterback position and showed a lot of signs of improvement…

Oakville Falls in Postseason

The Tigers were out-manned and out-gunned against the Jr. Bills.

In Friday’s first-round Class 6 football playoff match-up between Oakville and SLUH, both teams showed why they got into the postseason. SLUH just showed it more. Though the Tigers fought off a running clock, the game was never close. The Jr. Bills defeated Oakville 57-27 at SLUH to advance to the next round, and end the Tiger’s season with a 5-6 record. See more photos in the Melhville-Oakville Facebook. “We gave up some big plays on defense that we really didn’t give our selves a chance with,” Oakville head coach Arlee Conners said. “We drive the ball for three minutes, and they get the ball and score in 30 seconds.” The coach doesn’t exaggerate. SLUH senior Terek Hawkins bobbed and weaved, and streaked 94 yards for the first Bills …

Oakville Falls In Regular Season Finale

The Tigers lose to Eureka 48-21 but still qualify for the Class 6 playoffs and will play at SLUH Friday night.

The night began as one of celebration Friday night at Oakville High School as the Tiger seniors were recognized in a pre-game ceremony. But the celebration was short-lived as one of the Tiger standout seniors, Javon Henderson, was injured in the first quarter. He had to miss the rest of the game and Eureka took advantage, rolling to a 48-21 victory in the regular season finale for both teams. Thus, Eureka won the district championship and will host De Smet Friday night. Oakville also qualified for the first round of the playoffs and will travel to St. Louis University high for a game Friday night. "Losing Javon early in the game really put a damper on the whole evening," Oakville coach Arlee Conners said. "We knew that it was going to be …

Oakville Earns Playoff Berth with Win over Northwest

The Tigers' 42-7 win over the Lions and Eureka's victory over Fox sends Oakville to the state playoffs for the third time in four seasons.

Almost one year ago to the day, the Northwest Lions upset Oakville 14-13 to crush the Tigers’ dream of making it to the Class 6 state playoffs for a third consecutive year. But this time around, things would be much different for the Tigers. Oakville avenged that Oct. 22, 2010 loss by beating Northwest 42-7 Friday night at Oakville. The Tigers’ blowout win – coupled with Eureka’s victory over Fox – means that Oakville will be moving on to the state playoffs for the third time in four years. Check out more photos from the game on our Facebook page.  “We fell short last year, and we got to the state semifinals the year before,” Oakville coach Arlee Conners said. “We’re definitely excited to get there and not just show up, but get there and …

Oakville Rebounds With Victory Over Fox

The Tigers defeat the Warriors 38-16 in their district opener Friday night at Fox.

Oakville senior Javon Henderson admitted that he was embarrassed about his team's 50-0 loss to Lafayette last Friday night. Henderson and his Tiger teammates responded well to the embarrassment as they pounded Fox 38-16 Friday night in the district opener for both teams. "Last week was a big wake-up call for us," Henderson said. "It was a bad game but this was a whole new week. It was time to move forward." And Henderson was moving in all areas of the game as he scored on offense, defense and special teams to key the Tiger victory over the winless Warriors. "Javon did not have a good game last week and he was a man possessed tonight," Oakville coach Arlee Conners said. "He was on a mission and he had quite a bounce back game." Henderson …
