Senior guard knocked down two huge shots in the final minute of regulation to bring Bombers back from seven points down, in eventual 50-46 overtime win over Pattonville.
CREVE COEUR -- With just over one minute left in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Chaminade Christmas Tournament championship game against Pattonville, John Burroughs senior Trevor Bain had made just one shot. He’d only taken two shots the entire game at that point, and had spent most of the night helping set up the Bomber offense, while also playing superb defense against the Pirates litany of ultra-quick guards. But with his team down by seven points, and so close to possibly suffering their first loss of the season, Bain stepped up and knocked down two clutch long range shots that helped Burroughs force overtime. Then with the game close again in OT, Bain made three pressure-packed free throws with less than 40 seconds left, that gave …

Edlin Dilberovic scored a game-high 14 points against the Pirates.
Pattonville had three players in double figures as the Pirates, 3-2, defeated Mehlville 45-39 in first round at the Chaminade Holiday Tournament Monday evening. "We have been working on taking care of the ball," said Panther Coach Andy Guethle. "Their press in the first half didn't have much effect. It was the turnovers that were the difference." Mehlville was led by the team's two big men. Six-foot 6-inch junior Adis Mujakic scored only four points but grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocked shots and a steal. The 6-foot 5-inch senior Edlin Dilberovic scored a game-high 14 points along with six rebounds. Senior guard Michael Penny also had 10 points, two assists and a steal. "Edlin has been playing some very good offense. Adis is…

Despite an 8-17 season last year, Mehlville boys basketball head coach Andy Guethle remains excited about his Panthers, seen here practicing on Nov. 11.
Despite a rough 2009-10 season that produced an overall record of 8-17, and a 3-4 league record in the competitive Suburban West conference, Mehlville High head coach Andy Guethle remains excited about what this new basketball season has in store for his Panthers. "Last year was difficult, but we had a great off-season," Guethle said as he was preparing for practice on Nov. 11. "And I am optimistic about this group of young men." Mehville's rival, Oakville High, went 7-1 to win the Suburban West last year, followed by Lafayette at 6-1. Guethle is starting his seventh year as head coach at Mehlville. Though the season is yet to get under way, his expression and tone show he likes what he sees so far. The team returns four seniors from …
