Edlin Dilberovic scored a game-high 14 points against the Pirates.
Pattonville had three players in double figures as the Pirates, 3-2, defeated Mehlville 45-39 in first round at the Chaminade Holiday Tournament Monday evening. "We have been working on taking care of the ball," said Panther Coach Andy Guethle. "Their press in the first half didn't have much effect. It was the turnovers that were the difference." Mehlville was led by the team's two big men. Six-foot 6-inch junior Adis Mujakic scored only four points but grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocked shots and a steal. Despite a rough 2009-10 season that produced an overall record of 8-17, and a 3-4 league record in the competitive Suburban West conference, Mehlville High head coach Andy Guethle remains excited about what this new basketball season has in store for his Panthers. "Last year was difficult, but we had a great off-season," Guethle said as he was preparing for practice on Nov. 11. "And I am optimistic about this group of young men." Mehville's rival, Oakville High, went 7-1 to win the Suburban West last year, followed by Lafayette at 6-1. Guethle is starting his seventh year as head coach at Mehlville. Though the season is yet to get under way, his expression and tone show he likes what he sees so far. The team returns four seniors from …
