Whiz Kid: Teen Puts Disability Awareness Training to Use as Volunteer
Alyssa Matoushek uses her specialized Girl Scout training to enhance the camping experience of kids with disabilities.
Each Wednesday, Mehlville Patch will be highlighting a young person in the community who is making a positive difference in the lives of others. These kids are doing outstanding academic work, winning an award or exhibiting exemplary qualities. Know a great kid? Nominate them by e-mailing sarah.flagg@patch.com. Name: Alyssa Matoushek Age: 13 School: Margaret Buerkle Middle School Accomplishment: Matoushek, a member of Troop 1357, took extensive training programs and is now a day camp counselor for campers with disabilities with the Girl Scout Council of Eastern Missouri. Andrew Dummerth, age 13, is already a seasoned volunteer at Camp Sunrise, a camp for children with cancer.
