The South County Chamber of Commerce swore in its 2013 board of directors and executive board last week at Andre's Banquets and Catering. Before Fred Baras could accept his second term as president, his wife, Carole, a former president herself, administered his oath (which included a promise to respect his wife) and sealed it with a kiss! The South County Chamber of Commerce opened new offices last month near South County Center. The chamber's new address is 4179 Crescent Dr. Suite A, Saint Louis, MO 63129. The chamber was previously located in the Holiday Inn. For more, check out the South County Chamber of Commerce website.

UPDATE: Just kidding. They are now postponed. Other cities may be canceling their Fourth of July fireworks celebrations due to the hot, dry weather, but so far, the annual JB Blast celebration is still on. "There are no plans to cancel JB Blast," said St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger. "It's going to be really dry, but I think we are going to be OK." Stenger will be singing the national anthem at the event, which draws as many as 20,000 people each year. Stenger addressed residents' cancellation fears at an Affton Chamber of Commerce event today, adding that the annual fireworks show draws people from around the St. Louis area. Notable businesses received recognition at last night's banquet.
Area businesses and individuals were honored at the South County Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner Thursday. Notable awardees include Dr. John G’Sell and Eva G’Sell for Business Persons of the Year, Thomas O’Driscoll for Citizen of the Year and Kevin Openlander with River City Casino for Outstanding New Member. More than 200 people were in attendance at the awards dinner, which was held at Royale Orleans on Telegraph in Mehlville. Nominees for the awards were selected by the Chamber’s Board of Directors and then finalized by the awards committee.
