South County Woman Indicted on Charge of Murdering Her Grandmother

The woman told St. Louis County Police she believed the elderly woman had a demon and she tried to beat it out of her.

A South County woman, who police say killed her grandmother by stomping on the elderly woman, was indicted for second-degree murder and first-degree elder abuse. A St. Louis County grand jury handed down the decision Wednesday to hold her over for trial. Rachel Armstrong, 37, of the 10000 block of Golf Crest in South County’s Sappington area, told St. Louis County Police she threw down her 92-year-old grandmother and stomped on her Nov. 12 because she believed she was a demon. The elderly woman suffered eight broken ribs and two broken arms. She died Dec. 2 as a result of her injuries, St. Louis County Police said. Armstrong is being held in St. Louis County jail. Woman Beaten by Granddaughter Dies; Prosecutors Consider Upgrading Charges

The case is now set for the grand jury, where upgraded charges will be considered in the case of the woman who stomped on her own grandmother because she thought she was a demon.

The 92-year-old woman stomped and thrown by her daughter who believed she was a demon, died from her injuries on Monday at an area hospital. Her death means her granddaughter, Rachel Armstrong, 37, of the 10000 block of Golf Crest in South County, could face escalated charges from the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney's office. Armstrong is currently charged with first-degree elder abuse after throwing down her grandmother and stomping on her, breaking both her arms and eight ribs on Nov. 12. Armstrong told police she believed her grandmother was a demon and confessed to the attack. The police presented additional information to the county prosecuting attorney on Tuesday after Armstrong’s 92-year-old grandmother died of her injuries. …
