Timothy Ohlman of Mehlville is charged with DWI as a chronic offender, a class B felony.
A Mehlville man faces his fifth driving while intoxicated charge after being stopped April 17 at Lemay Ferry Road and South Lindbergh Blvd. Timothy Ohlman, 51, of the 4500 block of Evergreen Lane, was charged with DWI as a chronic offender, a class B felony. St. Louis County Police said an officer pulled Ohlman’s car over because he failed to stay in one lane and was driving erratically. The officer said Ohlman’s speech was slurred, he smelled strongly of alcohol, swayed when he walked and showed other signs of being drunk. Police said Ohlman failed a sobriety test, was arrested and refused a Breathalyzer test. Ohlman has four previous DWI convictions. A driver from Mehlville had two accidents within four minutes and left the scene of both accidents, police said. A St. Louis County Police report said Robert D. Menkhus, 36, of the 4200 block of Ringford Avenue in Mehlville, was driving in the 4400 block of Butler Hill Road in South County on Nov. 23, 2011. He struck another car near Carriage Trace at about 1:25 a.m., but kept driving. At 1:29 a.m., Menkhus struck a privacy fence at Old Lemay Ferry and Lemay Ferry roads, and also left the scene, police said. When St. Louis County Police officers pulled Menkhus over, they noticed a strong alcohol odor and said Menkhus had bloodshot and watery eyes. Prosecutors said that Elvedin Halkic was drunk when he caused a fatal accident in March.
A Mehlville man was indicted by a St. Louis County grand jury Thursday for involuntary manslaughter. St. Louis County Police said in a report that Elvedin Halkic, 32, of the 3700 block of Swiss Road in Mehlville, was driving under the influence of alcohol March 11 when he ran a red light at South Lindbergh Boulevard and East Concord Road. Halkic’s car struck a car driven by Edna Sue Binder, 58, of the 4500 block of Haverleigh Place in Concord. Binder later died from her injuries. A St. Louis County Police Officer noticed the strong smell of alcohol on Halkic and that he seemed intoxicated. Halkic admitted drinking alcohol before the accident, according to the police report.
