Oakville Tigers Hockey Beat Lindbergh, Look Forward to Playoffs

Forward Brandon Nichting was fundamental in helping the Oakville Tigers beat rival Lindbergh Flyers at the Shaw Park Hockey Classic last weekend.

The Oakville Tigers beat rival Lindbergh Flyers 4-2 at the Shaw Park Winter Classic outdoor exhibition tournament. Brendan Nichting, a senior, had a hand in all four of Oakville's goals, scoring twice and assisting twice. “It felt great today because it felt like I was out there a lot and that my coach believed in me a lot,” Nichting told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. “It’s nice that you don’t get to do this (play outdoors) very often and to have four points and (beat Lindbergh) makes it great.” Find more photos from the game on our Facebook page! Jack Gillette and his daughter Joanie, of St. Peters, didn't need the freebie. They came prepared with their own sign, designed by Jack's wife Michelle with a slogan that pretty much summed up fan sentiment: "It's About Pucking Time." The team estimates about 5500 fans came out to the free practice Sunday, followed by a Q&A session with players. The fans in the stands talked about the team's new Russian sensation Vladimir Tarasenko, but also how Tom Stillman, the new owner with ties to the Ladue-Frontenac area, was among the first in the …
