Who's Donating to the Klund, Ryan Campaigns for Mehlville Fire Board?

Ed Ryan's campaign committee has far outraised and outspent opponent Mike Klund's.

In his drive for re-election to a seat on the Mehlville Fire Protection District's board, Ed Ryan's campaign committee far outraised Mike Klund's.  That's according to campaign finance reports filed with St. Louis County last week. Ryan, an incumbent who serves as the board's secretary, raised $7,724 in contributions against Klund's $884. In addition to the contributions, Ryan received a $4,500 loan from Aaron Hilmer, the fire board's chairman.  More information about major contributors is included in a table below. The gap in fundraising allowed Ryan to spend more than his challenger. Ryan spent about $4,800 this election on yard signs, fliers and mailers. Klund hasn't spent any of his committee's funds, according to the reports.  The …

White Resigns as Mehlville Fire Chief

Assistant Chief Brian Hendricks will take over as interim chief.

The Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors voted unanimously in a closed meeting Wednesday to accept the resignation of Mehlville Fire Chief Tim White. The resignation comes after White was placed on forced administrative leave from June 13 to Wednesday of this week, MFPD Board Chairman Aaron Hilmer said. “It was an amicable thing. Tim White and the board disagreed about the future direction of the district,” Hilmer said. “After lengthy discussion, we both came to the same conclusion, we both decided to amicably part ways." Assistant Chief Brian Hendricks will step into the roll of interim chief and Deputy Chief Training Officer Dan Lafata will temporarily take over assistant chief duties. Hilmer said Hendricks has been with…

Hilmer Sworn in for Mehlville Fire Board

Aaron Hilmer was sworn in Monday for another term on the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors.

In front of a packed room, Aaron Hilmer took an oath of office administered by Mehlville Fire Chief Tim White for another term on the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors.  More than 20 people were present as Hilmer swore to support the Constitution of both the U.S. and Missouri and perform his duties to the best of his ability impartially in the interest of the whole fire district.  Hilmer was elected to the board April 5 after narrowly defeating Mike Klund by 213 votes. In his next six years, he vowed to maintain the district's buildings and service and put more of an emphasis on training.  The board also voted to keep the positions of Bonnie Stegman as Treasurer and Ed Ryan as Secretary.

Aaron Hilmer has proven himself to be a servant of the taxpayers. His defeated opponent Mike Klund, was a lap dog for the firefighter's union who almost succeeded in their $100,000+ campaign of lies, slander and incomplete facts. Aaron was outspent 10 to 1 but still won a second term. I can only hope that the chief finally relieves the unsatisfied, hateful and bitter union activists of their …   more ›

Mehlville Residents Head to the Polls

Polls report a slow trickle of voters in the early morning hours.

The end of today will bring new faces to the Mehlville school board, a county assessor and decide the fate of the fire district for the next six years. In April 2009, only 9,663 out of the district's approximately 90,000 residents voted for members of the school board. Now, nine candidates face three open positions as current members Erin Weber and Drew Frauenhoffer are not running for re-election and the vacated seat of Karl Frank Jr. is up for grabs. “I think the school board race is one of the most important in this election,” Ken Braun said. “They set the educational priorities of children.” Braun was at Bierbaum Elementary School to vote before work. The polls were slow this morning as workers at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and…

Hilmer Says Record Is Up for Re-Election

Aaron Hilmer is up for re-election as Board Chairman of the Mehlville Fire Protection District.

Aaron Hilmer said he simply wants to continue what he started six years ago when first elected to the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors. “I’m not here to tell you what I’m going to fix when I’m elected,” he said. “I’ve already fixed it. I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to do. People in South County know what I’ve already done. That’s what’s up for re-election, my record.” Hilmer has lived his 36 years in the Mehlville Fire Protection District. He was born in Mehlville and currently resides in Oakville. The son of a plumber and stay-at-home mom, Hilmer has a twin brother and younger sister. After graduating from Lutheran South High School, Hilmer was unsure of his future. “I was probably the only kid in my …
