The team, ranked No. 1 in the state, is hoping the tournament will advance it to the quarterfinals.
The Mehlville Boys Varsity Volleyball team is gearing up for a win in Saturday's district tournament. The team is currently ranked No. 1 in the state with a 27-1 record, said Coach James Fischer. It is the first time in 12 years the team has won the Suburban West Conference title. "They've played really well this year," he said. "I'm proud of them." The tournament, hosted by Mehlville High School, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Fischer said. The top two teams in district play will move on to the quarterfinals. Go Panthers!

Mark you calendars! Taste of South County is set for Sunday, April 28. The event, sponsored by the South County Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Mehlville High School located at 3200 Lemay Ferry Rd. Taste of South County will feature samples from the area's restaurants, information booths from local businesses, musical entertainment and an art exhibit from students in the Mehlville School District. A few of the restaurants taking part in the event include: Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Kids 4 and under are free. Students, teachers and administrators took to the stage in the latest spring fashions to raise money at the event, which was sponsored by the Mehlville Mothers' Club.
Many thanks to Kathy Bosch, president of the Mehlville High School Mothers' Club, for providing the following information on this event, which took place at Mehlville High School! The Spring Fashion Show was a success with more than 200 people attending. The fashion show has become a tradition at Mehlville that has been going on for at least 20 years. This year, one of Mehlville's principals, Mr. Angelo Colona (shown in one of the attached photos) made his last walk down the runway because he is retiring at the end of this school year. He has participated in it for 20 years. We had 37 of our students model, plus four administrators, two teachers with their children and five Brownies from Girl Scout Troop 1609 from Hagemann Elementary …

The third Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition moves on to its semi-final round Saturday, March 2, when 37 high school acts take the stage to select finalists who will compete at The Fabulous Fox on Friday, April 12 (a complete list of students/schools can be found here). Singer and guitarist Brian Phelan and Emily Dyer of Mehlville High School have advanced to the next round. This year, 155 acts—30 percent more than last year—registered to compete. Mehlville School District’s two major construction projects—tennis courts at Bernard Middle School and an auditorium at Mehlville High School—are moving along on schedule. Here’s your update, according to superintendent Eric Knost: Tennis Courts Construction on the tennis courts at Bernard Middle School is completed, Knost said. Workers are waiting for seven days where the temperatures stay above 50 degrees in order to paint and seal the courts. The courts are scheduled to be completed in March after some final grading and landscaping work. Congratulations to the recipients of the Mehlville School District Board of Education Outstanding Achievement Awards, presented Dec. 12: Seniors Jon Duchesne, Kevin Kuchno, and Abby Williams from Oakville High School were selected to perform with the Missouri All State Choir. Senior Megan Dillow was selected as a second alternate. Oakville High School senior David Gerding and Mehlville High School senior Kristin Lenz were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their top scores on the Preliminar SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Students in the Mehlville School District's culinary arts program now have certification to work in restaurants across the country.
More than two dozen Mehlville High School students have taken a major step towards a career in restaurant management, thanks to the District’s new Culinary Arts program, by receiving their food management safety certification. To work as a restaurant manager, a person must pass the ServSafe food management safety test. Topics on the test include time and temperature control, preventing cross-contamination of food, cleaning and sanitizing, safe food preparation, receiving and storing food, and methods of thawing, cooking, cooling and reheating food. Holes in the ground aren't usually newsworthy, but this dirt pit is on its way to becoming Mehlville School District's first auditorium. The school held an official groundbreaking last month. On Wednesday, several tractors were hard at work on the construction site. SEE RELATED STORIES: On October 17, the board approved a contract with Wright Construction Services for a base bid of $5,134,000 to build the 20,300 square foot auditorium. With a seating capacity of 522, the auditorium will support a wide range of academic, musical, theatrical and civic events. The auditorium is expected to open in the Fall of 2013. Senior running back Moe LaGrand and senior wide receiver Avion Stevenson both scored two touchdowns in Tigers' 38-6 rainy night rout over Panthers.
After an almost unfair run of difficult losses to start the season, the Oakville High football team claimed its second straight impressive victory Friday night at Mehlville High, in a 38-6 romp for the Tigers over the Panthers. Seniors Moe LaGrand and Avion Stevenson had a pair of touchdowns apiece, with Stevenson's coming in the first quarter to put Oakville on the board, and LaGrand's coming in the second and third quarters to put the game away. Mehlville's lone score came on a 93-yard kickoff return by sophomore Michael Mik. Oakville also forced six turnovers, as it improved its overall record to 3-4, while Mehlville, which has lost six straight, fell to 1-6 on the year.
