More Than 150 Take Part in Memorial Day Freedom Run

A caravan of military trucks, motorcycles and cars circled St. Louis to honor veterans and those currently serving in the military. The parade began in Fenton and ended in High Ridge.

If you happened to be out and about yesterday and saw a parade of military trucks, motorcycles and cars, it was a Freedom Run held to pay tribute to veterans, current military and their families. The parade-like run began in Fenton and circled St. Louis on area highways until it returned to High Ridge. The run went through Mehlville on Interstates 55 and 270. The event was sponsored by Faces of Freedom Fighters, a charitable foundation dedicated to building the state's first national monument to honor Missouri's fallen heroes. The group plans on making the run an annual event.

Sheri can you put that on you tube? It was a great event and a lot of fun just ask anyone who did it. I want to thank the biker community for support they gave. It will be a yearley event as we showed we could ride in a 59 mile caravan or Convoy with little distruption of the traffic flow. Thank you. Ben Lemons   more ›

Keep Afloat, On the Road This Memorial Day

Boaters and motorists are reminded to take safe measures during the extended holiday weekend.

Recreational opportunities in the state of Missouri abound for the holiday weekend. Many may be staying close to home, visiting one of the state’s tourist destinations or going to the Missouri lake or river of their choice for the extended weekend. The Missouri Highway Patrol reminds motorists and boaters to stay safe and responsible this Memorial Day. When driving, The MHP says to be aware of construction along your route, pay attention while you are driving and buckle up. MoDOT is easing up on road construction this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that some work may already be in progress.    To help reduce traffic violations, including alcohol-related incidents, the Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. Savory BBQ Secrets

The three-day Memorial Day weekend is observed locally as a time to honor our fallen soldiers and celebrate being with our families at a backyard barbecue.

Patch polled area residents and visitors on what makes the perfect blend of sauce to slather on their barbecue this Memorial Day weekend. Although the responses varied, most backyard chefs began their personal concoctions with commercial sauces. Ken Griffey of Mehlville depends on his wife, Pat, to stir up the sauce, but he prefers a blend of Maull’s Original and a Catalina salad dressing. Maggie Voss of Oakville usually barbecues chicken or pork steaks covered with either Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce or K. C. Masterpiece. “I never mix them, it’s one or the other,” Voss said. Oakville Dierberg’s butcher Jeremy Smothers is a purist and uses only Sweet Baby Ray’s when cooking at home. “I don’t add anything. It’s perfect as is,” Smothers said. …
