All in All, a Very Good Season for the Oakville Tigers Mid States Hockey Team

Goalkeeper Zach Jost stood tall in the nets all season long. Three Tigers were in the all-star game over the weekend.

All in all, this was a very good year for the Oakville Tigers Mid States hockey team. The team had an 18-9 season (6-1-1) in the Southwest Division II, good enough for first place. Altogether, the Tigers powered 118 goals. Junior forward Steve Farina was the team's top goal scorer with 20 this season. Recently, three of the players took part in the all-star game at the Webster Groves rink. They are all seniors—Andrew Kovacich, forward; Luke Hassler, defenseman and Zack Jost, the goalkeeper. The high point of the season was winning the playoff round with Chaminade, a team loaded with potential future junior hockey talent. The Tigers lost the opener of the playoffs to the Red Devils 4-1, then bounced back with a 5-3 win and a 1-0 mini game …

Oakville Ties CBC in Game 2 of Semifinals

Unfortunately for the Tigers, a tie wasn't enough to push a mini game three, but it was a special year for the team as fans grew in numbers through word of mouth and social media.

Oakville Varsity Hockey Credits Team Unity for Wins

The Varsity Oakville Tigers won Friday's game against Rockwood Summit and play the last home game of the season Saturday night against Chaminade.

Oakville Tigers varsity hockey team beat Rockwood Summit in their last season away game 4-1 Friday night. Rockwood scored the first point early, but the Tigers dominated the score board for the rest of the game. Check out our Facebook page for more photos of Friday's game. Players say Oakville’s winning streak started after captains called a team meeting to discuss the Tigers’ less-than-stellar start to the season. “We were not playing well,” said captain Luke Hassler, a senior. “We had a talk. We said, ‘We’re not a team. We’ve got to start acting like a team. Don’t take this as a joke.’” After deciding to bring more cohesion and professionalism to the ice, the team’s defense strengthened, and the front line started scoring more and more …

Last-Minute TD Catch Ends Oakville Football Season With Heartbreaking Playoff Loss To Marquette

Tigers led 14-0 midway through the second quarter, but couldn't add to lead in second half, while Mustangs rally, thanks to miracle catch in improbable comeback win.

BALLWIN -- Just about everything the Oakville High football team did during the first half of Friday's MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 playoff game at Marquette Stadium, worked out as some kind of positive. The Tigers played terrific defense, had very few penalties, and they ran the ball effectively, even though star running back Moe LaGrand -- the 2012 Suburban West Conference rushing champion -- was injured and left the game after just one play. Back on defense, Oakville forced three first-half turnovers, and sacked Marquette quarterback Austin Powers four times. And without LaGrand, Oakville still managed a couple of big plays from wideout Avion Stevenson and fullback Derrick Brown that helped the Tigers build a 14-0 lead midway through the …

Marquette Rallies To Defeat Oakville In District Football Opener

Mustangs trailed 14-3 at halftime, but came back to win on a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Austin Powers.

BALLWIN -- A cold, miserable Friday night at Marquette Stadium ended in celebration and jubilation for the homestanding Marquette Mustangs, who rallied from a two-touchdown, first-half deficit to defeat the visiting Oakville Tigers 16-14 in the MSHSAA district playoff opener for both clubs. Marquette trailed throughout the entire game, but managed to take the lead when junior quarterback Austin Powers hit senior wide receiver Brad Cruse for a 35-yard touchdown that gave the Mustangs its first advantage of the night. Powers threw two touchdowns in the second half, both on deep passes up the sideline, to rally Marquette back to victory. Oakville, which took advantage of three first-half Marquette turnovers, grabbed the lead on a 64-yard …

Oakville Makes It Three In A Row, With Blowout Romp Over Northwest

Tigers keep rolling along, as QB Andrew Oliver has big night using his legs to lead Oakville to victory.

The Oakville High football team is rolling, and with the district playoffs set to start in two weeks, there can't be too many teams interested in seeing the Tigers on their schedule. That certainly was the case Friday night at Rodger E. Estes Field, where Oakville hosted Northwest High, and delivered another dynamite performance -- winning their third straight ballgame -- 42-8 over the Lions. Junior quarterback Andrew Oliver had a big night for the Tigers, totaling nearly 200 yards on his own in the first half, and scoring three early touchdowns to help Oakville build a 27-8 halftime lead. Oliver, whose made a name for himself this season as an emerging young passer and leader for Oakville, called his own number more often than usual on …

Stevenson's fast start powers Oakville past archrival Mehlville

Speedy wideout Avion Stevenson catches two touchdown bombs in the first quarter to help Tigers sprint past battered up Panthers.

All season long, Oakville senior Avion Stevenson has been waiting for his chance to make a big play in a big game. And last week, during Oakville's Homecoming Game against Fox, Stevenson got his chance, when the Warriors punted him the ball just before halftime. The ultra-speedy Stevenson ran circles around the Fox coverage team and raced into the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown that would've given Oakville a 14-0 lead in front of its biggest crowd of the season. It was perfect. Just what Stevenson was waiting for. Except for one thing, the play was called back on a penalty. "It felt so great," Stevenson said. "I was so excited. I didn't even know about the penalty until I got to the sideline. And then I was like, 'man, you gotta be …

Mighty Moe’s Three TD Runs Lead Oakville Past Fox

Senior Morris "Moe" LaGrand ran wild for the Tigers, with 184 yards and the three touchdowns to lead Oakville to an upset victory on Homecoming night against Fox.

All season long, Fox High running back Jimmy Huskey has been stealing headlines away from more well-known players, who couldn't keep up with the senior's incredible gameday pace, which finds Huskey leading the Suburban West Conference in rushing and scoring. The 6'2, 200-pound speedster had even become the leading candidate to take home the Suburban West Player of the Year award. But Friday night, during Oakville football's Homecoming night celebration, Huskey was upstaged in a big way by Tiger senior Morris LaGrand, who broke out for a season-high 184 yards and three touchdowns to lead Oakville to a stunning 27-0 upset over Fox. "It feels really good to have a game like this," said LaGrand, who simply goes by the ultra-cool nickname 'Moe…
