Turnover Problems Prove Too Much To Overcome As Mehlville Falls At Fox

Panthers cough up four fumbles and throw two interceptions in 41-3 loss against Fox.

Mistakes and the ability to capitalize on them was the key in Friday's Suburban West Conference football showdown between Mehlville and Fox. And at the outset, which began with a botched onside kick on the opening kickoff by Fox, it seemed like the breaks were going to go Mehlville's way. That feeling was further reinforced when the Panthers connected for a 30-yard halfback option pass on the first play of the game. Unfortunately, those two plays were about all Mehlville would get on Friday, as Fox forced six Panther turnovers and capitalized on them all in a convincing 41-3 Homecoming Night victory for the Warriors. "You're not going to win many games turning the ball over six times that's for sure," Mehlville head coach Eric Meyer said…

Mehlville Takes Big Tumble In 41-3 Loss At Fox Friday Night

Panthers turn the ball over six times and were held without a touchdown in humbling loss to surging Fox.

The Fox High football team improved its record to 3-1 Friday night with a scintillating 41-3 Homecoming Night victory over visiting Mehlville. Senior running back Jimmy Huskey rushed for 162 yards and scored four touchdowns to the lead the Fox offense, while the Warrior defense forced six turnovers and didn't give up a touchdown for the second straight week. Mehlville scored first on a 28-yard field goal by junior Chris Simmons on the first possession. But then Fox scored 41 unanswered points to cruise to a victory that kept it tied with Lafayette and Parkway South atop the Suburban West league standings. The Panthers fell to 1-3 on the year.  Please tune in to Patch later Saturday for the full story on Mehlville's loss against Fox.

Injuries to Moore, Partee Hurt Mehlville in Loss to Fort Zumwalt North

The Panthers fell 14-8 to Fort Zumwalt North in their first home game.

Turnovers and injuries brought down the Mehlville High School football team in a 14-8 loss to Fort Zumwalt North Friday at home. The team lost quarterback Brendan Moore and wide receiver/safety Patrick Partee in the first half to injuries. Coach Eric Meyer said it’s uncertain how long they’ll be out. “We need some guys to step up,” he said. “We had some injuries, it’s time to move on; get guys healthy and move on.” Kirkland Burton scored the Panthers’ only touchdown and had several strong carries for the team. One drive started the fourth quarter with six carries before getting stopped on fourth down. “He just ran the ball super hard, that’s kind of what we expect. He came in and did a great job for us,” Meyer said. Joe Murphy, who stepped…

Strong Offensive Line Leads Panthers in Preseason Scrimmage

Head coach Eric Meyer said he's please with how well the Mehlville High School football team did in a preseason scrimmage Friday.

Coach Eric Meyer said his team was tired of beating each other up in practice. But on Friday, the Mehlville football team got plenty of practice beating up other teams during a preseason scrimmage at Oakville, where the offensive and defensive lines were dominant.  See more photos on our Facebook page.  The eight-team scrimmage had the Panthers facing Seckman, Riverview Gardens and Roosevelt high schools in 12-play mini-games. “I thought we had some good things that worked,” Meyer said. “You come out and try to iron some things out and we know there’s more things we have to work on.” The team returns quarterback Brendan Moore, who stepped in last season for an injured Jeff White. White graduated and Moore will take over the offense. Senior…
