Patch sites around America, including yours, will take part in a National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Friday. At that hour, the website will go blank for 5 minutes. The page will be replaced by a message noting the National Moment of Silence, and a link will direct viewers to a website that explains ways you can join the campaign to help the people of Sandy Hook. After 5 minutes, the website operation will return to normal. The Moment of Silence coincides with one across social media sites. Over 100,000 people have pledged not to tweet or post to Facebook, reports TechCrunch, including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Britney Spears, Suze Orman, Tyler Florence, Goldie Hawn, and Joe Montana. Find out how you can help the nursery, or send your own ideas of places for Patchers to volunteer.
Patch editors in the St. Louis area cleaned, organized, sorted, wiped, hugged and played at the St. Charles location for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery. The Crisis Nursery's mission is to prevent child abuse by providing temporary housing and care for young children in order to give their parents and caretakers the space and time needed to resolve crisis. Patch editors organized and sanitized toys, cleaned high chairs and walls, put away summer clothes, put babies to sleep and played with the little ones. See previous story: Patch Volunteers Today at Crisis Nursery We volunteer as part of our coverage with a program called "Give 5," through which we donate advertising space to charitable organizations and contribute our own time as …

Read the corrections to Wednesday's story about Mehlville School District tax rates.
Patch had two errors in Wednesday’s story about tax rates at Mehlville School District. The story, called “Mehlville Schools Tax Rate to Increase,” has been corrected, but this article is intended to highlight those errors so readers can find clarity. The original story incorrectly listed the newly adopted 2012 tax rates for commercial real estate. The new tax rate is $3.5716. The rate in 2011 was $3.4372. We apologize for the error. The article also incorrectly represented a proposal for tax rates presented by school board member Rich Franz. At Tuesday’s tax hearing, Franz moved to adopt the residential tax rate proposed by the school district ($3.6494) and to hold the agricultural, personal property and commercial rates at their 2011 …

Patch's social media guru will now be the associate local editor for mid-South St. Louis County!
Howdy, y’all! I’m Lindsay Toler, the new editor in Mehlville-Oakville for Patch.com! I’ll be the one “replacing” Sarah Flagg, who is launching a Patch in Chicago! I'm getting to know my new community, so forgive me as I attempt to get past the learning curve. If you have news, history or stories I should know, shoot me an email (Lindsay.Toler@patch.com) or call me (314-452-2641). Coffee's on me! A little about me: I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, so I love hot summer weather and chili con queso. I live in south St. Louis with the boyfriend and our puppy, a schnoodlehuahua (schnauzer+poodle+chihuahua) named Persie after Robin Van Persie, the Dutch soccer player. Here are some important things about me: I moved to St. Louis in September …

Are you a Mizzou fan? College Colors Day is an annual day where people across the country show their support for their favorite college by wearing its colors.
Mizzou? SLU? Lindenwood? Which college or university lays claim to having the most fans in St. Louis? Today is College Colors Day, an annual celebration, according to its website, dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across America to wear apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day. Here at Patch, we're using the day to find out which higher education establishment has the most support in the St. Louis-community. I, myself, am a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale—go Salukis!—but am also a huge fan of Mizzou. What about you? Upload a photo of you, your family, your dog—whatever—displaying your college colors. When …
