Five Upcoming Christmas Events in Mehlville

If you think you've missed Santa, fear not. Here are five events where he might appear.

Christmas Party at St. Bernadette Catholic Church 68 Sherman Road Jefferson Barracks 314-892-6882 The St. Bernadette 50 Plus club is sponsoring a gala Christmas party and concert in the parish gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 16. This event represents the club's annual Christmas party and this year they are sharing the joy by inviting the entire parish to be their guests for an evening of refreshments and music. The Mehlville Senior High School Choir will be performing. The membership meeting will be held at 7 p.m. and the Christmas concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Each attendee is asked to bring a canned good or a non-…

'Tis The Season to Lie to Children

If your children are reading over your shoulder, close your web browser immediately. If you refuse and they can read, they will learn that Santa Claus is not real.

Santa Claus is not real, but telling our children he'll deliver them gifts on Christmas morning is quite fun, especially when they are little.  No harm, no foul, right?  Maybe so, but the tradition is something I have struggled with as a parent, especially after growing up on movies like "Miracle on 34th Street."   If you have never seen the movie, all you need to know is that there is a mother raising her daughter to be a logical, free-thinking young girl, but a man named Kris Kringle stumbles in to their lives and challenges the family to believe Santa Claus is indeed real. The mother learns it is acceptable for the child to have her imaginations and not to "reject all notions of belief and fantasy," as Kenneth Chisholm says in a summary…

Good points Laury. I have largely made the same choice with my children but it is something I think about nonetheless.
