Local Stylist Fighting Bill to Eliminate Cosmetology License Requirement

Heather Hoy, who works at a South County salon, says the proposed bill would jeapordize the entire industry and its customers. She has started an online petition to oppose the measure.

A proposed bill that would eliminate the state cosmetology licensing requirement has many in the profession up in arms. In fact, one South County cosmetologist has started an online petition opposing the measure. "Not only does it impact my career and my passion negatively, but it can also put the general public at a health risk," Heather (Wingbermuehle) Hoy said in an email to Patch. Hoy, a hair stylist at Frederick's Beauty Etc., explained that obtaining her license required her to take classes on proper sanitation, how to recognize different types of disease/fungus on the hair, skin and nails and how to use chemicals. I don't know one salon owner that would hire someone without a license. Some people think they know everything! This angers me   more ›

Breaking: Emergency Rush Hour Work on JB Bridge

Motorists on I-255 are urged to find an alternative route home today.

One lane of westbound I-255 on the Jefferson Barracks bridge is being closed Thursday afternoon for urgent repairs, Fox2 reports. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says that construction crews are repairing an expansion joint, according to the report. The work is being done to improve safety and prevent further damage. Roadwork will last through rush-hour until midnight. Find an alternative route to avoid delays. MoDOT predicts all lanes will be open for the Friday morning rush.

Couple Charged With South and West County Bank Robberies

The Chesterfield couple also may face charges in Arnold and Columbia, IL, police said.

A Chesterfield couple was accused Saturday of three bank robberies, including two holdups in South County. Town and Country Police reported that Mackenzie Leonard, 26, and Darren Everett, 42, both of the 1100 block of Matador in Chesterfield, were charged with three counts of first-degree robbery. Leonard also was charged with armed criminal action. Police said Leonard and Everett acted together in the following robberies: St. Louis County Police stated two more robbery charges are may be pending, one in Arnold and another in Columbia, IL. Wednesday, Jan. 9 A burglary was reported in the 1400 block of Bodmin Ct. A checkbook was stolen. Thursday, Jan. 10 Prescription medication was reported stolen in a burglary in the 3600 block of Lemay Ferry Rd. Sunday, Jan. 13 A car stereo was stolen from a vehicle in the 4800 block of Turley Mill. Monday, Jan. 14 Tuesday, Jan. 15 A gun, jewelry, glasses and ball caps were reported stolen during a burglary in the 700 block of Bartolet Ave. Wednesday, Jan. 16 Cell phones were reported stolen in the 7000 block of S. South County Woman Indicted on Charge of Murdering Her Grandmother

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in River City Casino Parking Garage

The suspect took the 63-year-old woman's purse and then fled in her car. Police later spotted the vehicle, chased it into North County and arrested four juveniles.

A 63-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint Friday night at a parking garage at River City Casino at 777 River City Casino Dr. The woman told St. Louis County police that the suspect displayed a gun and took her purse and 2012 Hyundai Sonata. She and her 61-year-old friend were not injured.  Information on the vehicle was broadcast to surrounding police departments. Police later spotted the vehicle, chased it into unincorporated North County and arrested four juveniles, who were taken to the St. Louis County Juvenile Justice Center. The stolen items were recovered, but gun was not found at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate.

Police: Car on Fire, Gun Stolen at South County Center

South County Precinct officers of the St. Louis County Police Department handled five incidents in one day, including thefts and a car fire.

Police officers with the St. Louis County Police Department’s South County Precinct handled six incidents at South County Center last month. Officers responded to five incidents in one day, according to the blotter for the week of Nov. 18, the most recent blotter available. On Nov. 21, a wallet was reported stolen from 720 South County Center Way. The wallet contained a debit card, credit card, work identification, cash and a gift card. On Nov. 23, more than $500 of clothing and a gun were reported stolen from South County Center in two separate incidents. That same day, police also received two separate reports of electronics, a purse and prescriptions being stolen. A car also caught on fire that day. SEE PREVIOUS STORIES

The St. Louis County Police Department released news of the following incidents from Oct. 8-14.

The South County Precinct of the St. Louis County Police Department handled the following incidents from October 8 through 14, according to the department's blotter. 'Like' Patch on Facebook for breaking crime news. October 10 More than $500 worth of clothing was reported stolen from the 400 block of South County Center Way. A purse, credit card and debit card were reported stolen from the 4200 block of Butler Hill Road. Hunting equipment was reported stolen from the 4300 block of Marseille Drive.
