A confidential tip helped St. Charles Police nab two men now being investigated in jewelry thefts in multiple states. Police said officers found a cache of more than $200,000 in stolen jewelry. Police found the stolen jewelry when they searched the men and their rental car Thursday. Some of the recovered jewelry was reported stolen from Samuels Jewelers in South County Center. Quinton Garrus, 52, of Baltimore, was charged Friday with receiving stolen property. A second man who was arrested has not yet been charged in St. Charles County. Garrus had warrants for felony stealing conspiracy and failure to appear in Maryland. Teenager used iron poker to fend off an attempt to recover child from the DFS-appointed home in St. Charles.
A third person was charged in a home invasion on Friday in an attempt to recover his daughter from a relatives’ home in St. Charles. Andrew R. Wilson, 30, of the 5500 block of Seth in Mehlville, was charged Monday as an accessory to burglary. Previously, Jennifer Temm, 34, of Oakville and Matthew Wakeman, 26, of Affton, were charged Saturday with accessory to burglary. According to court documents, Temm asked Wilson, the child's father, and Wakeman help her get her daughter from a relative’s home. The relative had contacted the Division of Family Services about the child, and the agency advised the relative to keep the child while an investigation could be completed, said Lt. A poker-wielding youth may have stopped the break-in and attempt to take the child.
An Oakville woman and an Affton man who attempted to take the woman's child from a family member’s home in St. Charles Friday were charged Saturday as an accessory to a burglary. A third suspect was being treated for injuries at Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. A juvenile attacked one intruder with a fireplace poker and may have stopped the attempt, according to a St. Charles Police report.
