KKK Advertising in South County Target Parking Lot

The Ku Klux Klan left flyers for Target shoppers, inviting them to learn more about the group.

The Ku Klux Klan is recruiting at Target. The group left flyers on cars at the South County Target store complete with the KKK logo and drawings of figures in white hoods. "We're bringing back the traditional ways of the Ku Klux Klan to the modern day!" the flyer reads. 'Like' us on Facebook for instant updates on this story! Imperial Wizard/President Frank Ancona, of the Traditionalist American Knights Ku Klux Klan, said he didn't know exactly who handed out the flyers in South County today, but he says he isn't surprised. "The reports I'm getting from the local people in that area (South St. Louis County) say that there's been an increase in black-on-white crime and robbery and child abductions," Ancona said. "People are really concerned…

Seasonal Jobs Abound as Holiday Season Approaches

Many St. Louis-area big box retail stores are hiring seasonal workers to help handle the holiday shopping season.

Thousands of jobs are on the way to the St. Louis area as big-box retail stores such as Walmart and Target are set to hire seasonal employees in anticipation of the holiday shopping rush. According to a St. Louis Business Journal report, Walmart plans on hiring more than 50,000 seasonal employees, although it's not sure how many of those jobs will be for the store's 20 St. Louis-area locations. Walmart's not the only store hiring. Many of the Christmas season's go-to stores are also looking for seasonal help. The Business Journal reports that Target is set to hire between 80,000 to 90,000 workers across the country, while Kohl's plans to hire 52,000 workers. And Macy's, which has three locations in the St. Louis-area, plans to add 1,700 …

Back to School Sales Tax Holiday Starts Friday

The South County Mall and other local businesses will eliminate sales tax this weekend for back-to-school supplies.

Buy school supplies and back-to-school clothing without paying sales tax this Friday through Sunday.  School starts Aug. 16 and South County businesses—including the South County Mall, Target and Walmart—will be participating in the three-day tax-free holiday weekend. State law requires the holiday, which includes back-to-school essentials such as clothing, supplies and computers. Some municipalities opt out; so if you’re planning on tax-free purchases, avoid these cities:

You might see bad news on Facebook and type “hugs to you,” but a hug isn’t a hug without the squeeze. Take a thank-you note, for example. Last week, I had the fun of treating a friend to dinner. We had a great time together, and the next day she wrote me a sweet email about how much she enjoyed our conversation and our friendship. But while I liked getting her email, it was the words written in ink that arrived a few days later that are tucked in a basket, saved for their evidence of a decade-long friendship. When we were visiting my husband’s grandparents last year…

We got in and out with all of our video games in about 1 hour. We got some great deals and little hassle with long lines this year. Of course we avoided the big box stores. Once we left the mall and went to McDonald's it was a different story.   more ›
