Visions for Vacancies: 4242 Telegraph Road

The space next to Andre's Banquet & Catering is closed and empty, so we want to know: What kind of business do you want to see move in?

The shopping plaza on Telegraph Road near Forder Road is becoming more and more of a destination. Andre's Banquets and Catering brings parties, weddings and events to the center. Dunkin' Donuts just opened a new store there. And Comic Headquarters draws comics lovers from all over, especially on Free Comic Book Day. But the business at 4242 Telegraph Road is just a big empty square with a makeshift cardboard sign: "Closed for business." The last business to occupy the space was Ride the Rails billiards bar. So we want to hear from those who know Mehlville best: What kind of business should move into that empty spot? What would compliment the other businesses in the area? What do we need? Leave your comments in the section below!

Even a GOOD paint job and a revamp of the entire parking lot would help a lot. Many times you can tell the facilities by the way the parking lot looks.   more ›

Oakville's Dunkin' Donuts store opened on Telegraph Road Thursday and offers 99-cent lattes.

Dunkin' Dounts opened in Oakville on Thursday, and by Monday morning there was a steady stream of customers ordering donuts at the cash register and in the drive-thru. The restaurant has about 10 small tables and a bar area for four to sit. A kiosk sells the company's popular coffee blends as well as coffee mugs, hot cocoa mix, shirts and even Dunkin' Donuts holiday ornaments. The store's big special is the 99-cent latte. Approved by the county a year and a half ago, the doughnut shop drew concerns from neighboring residents about increased traffic and about moving a 14-year-old Jazzercise franchise.  Residents in a nearby subdivision shared concerns over traffic at a public hearing in June 2011. The space was a formerly a Jazzercise …

Dunkin' Donuts Begins Construction in Oakville

The proposal drew a strong reaction from the community during a public hearing in June 2011.

Construction on a Dunkin’ Donuts has started in the Telegraph Shopping Center, and an open date is predicted in October or November.  Approved by the county more than a year ago, the doughnut shop drew concerns from the community.  Residents in a nearby subdivision shared concerns over traffic at a public hearing in June 2011. The space was a formerly a Jazzercise exercise facility, which received a “Notice to Terminate Tenancy,” with a one-month notice to relocate. Webster Groves-based Breihan Properties owns the shopping center.  The proposed fast food restaurant will be a freestanding building with 32 seats on the inside and 12 seats on the outside. It is also expected to eliminate 31 of the shopping center’s 368 parking spaces. …

Consuming South County

South County Getting Three New Businesses for the Price of Two

What do insurance, IHOP and cruises all have in common? They're all making a presence in South County.

Mehlville residents can rejoice in pancake heaven. A new International House of Pancakes is slated to open in the old El Pollo Loco location at 4103 Lemay Ferry Road. According to John Watson of the St. Louis County Department of Public Works, building permits were issued at the end of June and sign permits were issued about two weeks ago. The sign is in place and the final phase of construction is underway. The new IHOP is expected to be open in a few weeks. Meanwhile, Oakville residents may be curious about the recently-built structure at 6685 Telegraph Road. From the outside, the building resembles an atrium ranch home, but a freshly laid blacktop driveway with bright, white painted parking spaces says otherwise. In fact, the building, …
