Happy Veterans Day, Mehlville and Oakville! Veterans Day "originated as 'Armistice Day' on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Census website. This Veterans Day is the first since the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Civil Air Patrol units in the greater St. Louis area are kicking off their annual Wreaths Across America campaign this Veterans' Day weekend to honor and remember our country's veterans during the upcoming holiday season. Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary on Dec. 15 during a ceremony officiated by Lt. Col.
