St. Louis Cardinals Season Ends in San Francisco

The Giants beat the Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 to end the Redbirds' 2012 season.

There will be no World Series in St. Louis this season.  There will be no parade down Market Street, no 12th world championship and no rematch of the 2006 Fall Classic. Monday night in San Francisco the Cardinals hopes of a repeat of 2011 were ended at the hands of the Giants.  Just like in 1996, the Cardinals, with a new manager, had a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship series. And, just like in '96, the Cards failed to get win No. 4, losing in Game 7 in a blowout.  The Cardinals were done in by a series of miscues and the inability to get a big basehit. But, credit the San Francisco, the Giants had to play perfect to come back and did just that.  The loss in California closes the book on an interesting season for the Cardinals…

Is David Freese an MLB All-Star?

The third baseman sent the St. Louis Cardinals to Game 7 of the World Series with his clutch performance, but he hasn't secured a spot on the National League's All-Star Game roster yet. Fans can still vote him in.

Why doesn’t the World Series MVP have a spot on the All-Star team yet? David Freese rescued the St. Louis Cardinals when they were one strike away from losing the World Series twice, and started this season with 13 home runs. Aside from baseball, he created his own baseball camp, suffered through an obnoxious interview at Six Flags St. Louis and made this 7-year old’s dream come true. Does that sound like an All-Star to you? Vote here or text N2 to 89269 to cast your ballot for Freese, who is competing against Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals), Michael Bourn (Atlanta Braves) and Aaron Hill (Arizona Diamondbacks). Freese was in the running against favorite Atlanta Braves' Chipper Jones, when Major League Baseball announced Jones would …

What's interesting here is the time Bryce Harper lost in the race when he did the cool thing and told people to vote for Chipper Jones when Jones was still in the running as a last candidate, in what is his final season. Hard to pinpoint how many votes Harper lost between Sunday and Tuesday. Also saw that Bradley Beal was already getting into the DC spirit by using his twitter account to give …   more ›

Filing Begins for Missouri Presidential Primary

Amid questions about whether the primary will amount to anything, supporters of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney threw his name into contest.

Candidate filing began this week for the state’s presidential primary amid questions about whether the contest will have any bearing on choosing presidential delegates. As of press time, four Republican presidential aspirants have signed up for next February’s contest. That list includes former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Georgia businessman Herman Cain, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson and St. Louis resident Michael Meheen. Republicans opted to select their delegates through a caucus process after the legislature failed to pass legislation moving the primary from February to March. Such a move was necessary to avoid running afoul of party rules. Secretary of State Robin Carnahan has been a strong supporter of keeping the primary …

Can the Redbirds Ride the Heroics of Lafayette's David Freese to a Series Win?

The Lafayette grad jacked one over the centerfield fence to steal Game 6 from the Texas Rangers. Do the Cardinals have a chance in Game 7?

Minutes after the St. Louis Cardinals clawed back and won Game 6 of the Worlds Series just before midnight, fans on Twitter were raving about the game and the performance of hometown hero David Freese, the Lafayette High grad whose walkoff homer won the game. The Cards won 10-9, knotting the series 3-3 for a deciding Game 7 tonight. "Why is David Freese not trending?!" tweeted "ndrewAllen." "If the #Cardinals win the World Series, they have to build a statue of #DavidFreese," posted JYOUNGNEXTLEVEL, hailing the alum of the Wildwood high school. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, on the homepage of its STLtoday.com website, headlined its story "Freese it! Hometown hero sends series to Game 7." Nobody could resist the play on words. MLB.com …

@ Mr. Frank: I agree that the Cardinals are a worthy champion and played baseball at a higher level than their opponents to end the season. Tony LaRussa has had my respect since his days in Chicago and I'm glad that he's retiring a champion.   more ›

Moms Talk: Redbird Fever in the Family

Local moms weigh in on the Cardinals World Series trip, and what it means to their families.

The Cardinals face the Texas Rangers Wednesday in the first World Series game and families everywhere are stocking up on red and making snacks for the game.  How do you celebrate the Cardinals in your family? Does your whole family get together to watch the games? Listen on the radio?  As always, with celebration comes caution. If you attend games, especially with the family, how do you handle the overpriced hot dogs, cotton candy, and other snacks? You want your kids to have fun, but how do you resist from breaking the bank? Especially in the last game, the TV cameras showed Prince Fielder and other Brewers players chewing tobacco. Do your children ask what they're doing? How do you handle it if they notice? Jennifer AuBuchon Well our …

Cardinals Fans Beware: Another Consumer Alert from the BBB

The St. Louis BBB is warning fans who are traveling to Texas for the World Series about suspicious hotel offers.

On Monday, the St. Louis Better Business Bureau warned Cardinal nation about World Series ticket scams. Tuesday, an alert came about hotel ads targeting fans that may be scrambling to find accommodations in the Arlington area. The BBB said the ads are cropping up on Craigslist. The Alert A release from the BBB reads in part: Several ads for World Series hotel packages on a classified ad site claimed to offer tickets for a Rams-Cowboys game along with the hotel, a tip-off that the person who placed the ad may not be familiar with the teams in the World Series, the Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. Some ads are full of misspellings, which also can be a characteristic of fraudulent ads. “Sports fans may be anxious to get a hotel room near the …

Don't Let Ticket Scams Crash Happy Flight Cards' World Series

The St. Louis area Better Business Bureau gives tips on how to avoid dropping wads of cash on fake tickets and con artists.

St. Louis Cardinal fans’ excitement can help carry their team to an 11th World Series title. However, it also can lead to scams that cost them big money. “Sports fans can get burned by purchasing counterfeit tickets or paying in advance for tickets that never arrive,” said Michelle L. Corey in a statement issued by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Corey is the president and CEO of the organization, which warns consumers against scams and fraud. The secondary market for sports and entertainment tickets is a $10 billion a year industry. But during last year’s World Series, scams involved counterfeit tickets or tickets that never arrived, said Chris Thetford, vice president for communications for the St. Louis area BBB. “Basically, there’s …
