Mehlville Man Opens New Kind of Gym in Arnold

Arlen Castenada, co-owner of CrossFit 636, says rather than focusing on exercise machines to keep his clients fit, he favors a "whole body" approach.

A Mehlville man has opened a new gym in Arnold called CrossFit 636, but you won't see any of the typical exercise machines there. Arlen Castenada, a Mehlville resident and co-owner of the gym, says he wants to keep people fit, but he isn't willing to turn over their training to a bunch of exercise machines that will only provide a workout for one part of the body or another. Instead, Castenada and his business partner, John Powers, favor a whole-body approach, using compound movements where people are getting fit by working on multiple things at the same time. The woman told Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies Justin Bryan grabbed her by the arms, punched her in the arm and bit her wrist.

A 24-year-old Oakville man is facing a charge after his girlfriend told Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies that he grabbed, punched and bit her. Justin Bryan, of the 5300 block of Kingscreek Court, has been charged with third-degree domestic assault by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office in the Feb. 28 incident. The woman told deputies she and Bryan got into a verbal argument at her Arnold home, and that he had become very angry, according to court documents. He then grabbed her by the arms, punched her in the arm and bit her right wrist. The woman said she told Bryan to stop, but he just laughed at her, the documents state. She said Bryan continued grabbing and punching her for about 30 minutes and finally left her home. …

Are You Living In a Former Meth House?

Our partners at Fox2 have compiled a list to help you protect yourself.

Did you just buy a home, or are you renting in the St. Louis or Jefferson County area? You could be living in an old meth house. Our partners at Fox2 have compiled an online database and a map to help you protect yourself. Officials say invisible toxins from meth-making threaten people long after the drug bust. Police say every crevasse of a home contains the toxins related to meth, including the curtains, walls and air registers. They added that there is no standard practice for cleaning old meth houses. An important issue for sure. Question: Aren't realtors and/or sellers legally required to divulge if a home has been used in meth production? I thought a law addressing that had been passed a few years ago. Second, I thought there were ways of truly cleaning a structure of the remains of meth. From what the article states, there really isn't. If these homes/trailers/apartments can't be cleaned to…   more ›

Elegant Fine Dining Featured at 1904 Steak House

Vintage turn-of-the century elegance combined with opulent surroundings make River City's 1904 Steak House a unique dining destination.

As the saying goes, “what’s old is new again” can best describe River City Casino’s concept for its 1904 Steak House. Housed within the old space occupied by the late Jeff Ruby’s, the 1904 Steak House reflects the elegance of St. Louis’ turn of the century glory of Gilded Age opulence. It was a time when fine dining was defined by its menu, which always featured fine steaks and seafood. Following this age-old tradition, the 1904’s Steak House’s dining room is plush - appointed with rich, wood paneling, crystal chandlers and a wine room nestled in its core where more than 300 bottles are displayed. While walking from the hostess station to your table you’ll pass the marble accented full service bar and the raw bar, a fresh fish station that…
