Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and American Airlines, Inc. have reached a tentative agreement that will settle American’s financial and operational obligations at the Airport. American’s parent company, AMR Corporation, is currently dealing with Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and the agreement has to be fully approved. The City of St. Louis, which owns and operates the Airport, pursued a negotiated settlement, which includes modifying leases with American Airlines, to avoid a rejection of all existing agreements with the city. Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (Lambert) officials said they expect a 10-15 percent daily increase in passengers each day through the Thanksgiving holiday. In its annual Thanksgiving travel forecast, AAA predicts 43.6 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday, up just 0.7 percent from last year. The biggest single travel day of the holiday weekend for Lambert is projected to be the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Pieces of broken glass littered passenger waiting areas Saturday at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport's Concourse C following a devastating storm. Numerous workers could be seen rebuilding during a media tour of the facility. During the tour, Mayor Francis Slay told St. Louis Patch he doesn't know the number of St. Louis City employees who had been dispatched to help in storm-ravaged parts of the county. But he said that the two governments are working together and that he has personally reached out to St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley. The airport likely sustained millions of dollars in damage as a result of the storm, said Rich Bradley, president of the Board of Public Service of St. Louis City, during a news conference. …

St. Louis travelers have a bit of good news in light of Friday storms: Lambert Airport should operate at 70 percent capacity by Sunday. Officials said in a news conference Saturday morning that Terminal One sustained the most damage, while Terminal Two had limited damage. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said that he was stunned by the condition the airport was in last night but that airport employees have worked around the clock to get the airport running again. Slay said the airport should go to 100 percent capacity by the middle of the week. St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said no St. Louis County residents lost their lives.
