ReplyOne reason I'm incredibly skeptical is because Marsha also happens to have a town hall meeting scheduled for Oakville in 6 days.
Politics or a real issue?

ReplyI haven't decided whether this is a big deal or not. Im skeptical of the housing project, but given all the serious issues in our community, I'm also skeptical of the "outrage" over something most people know nothing about. They act mad, but when you ask them questions, they dont know any actual facts about the project.
Again, maybe it is a bad idea, but no one seems to know why.
I'm more concerned about the 1000 asthma attacks and 57 to 100 premature deaths happening each year because of the Meramec Coal Ash Plant next to Rogers Elementary.
It feels like manufactured outrage, but I'm not ready to write it off yet.

Anonymous Coward Clown,
The number one factor in the quality of a child's education after socioeconomic status is the quality of the educator in the classroom...and they don't work for free.

ReplyIt's post like this Anonymous Coward that puts the Clown in your name.
Even if you were right, which you are not, there is a market for highly effective school teachers and administrators. You would be a liar to say there is not a difference between highly effective teachers and destructive classroom teachers.
The place for your grievance is not with the Mehlville School District, it is with the State of Missouri and the federal government.
Mehlville has laws to follow.
Mehlville has participates in a market of educators.
Quality education comes at a price.
Ineffective education comes at a higher price.
I'm sorry if this is all over your head.

ReplyThat's correct Anonymous Coward Clown. Our teachers are still paid like it's the 1970s. That's why they are the second lowest paid in all of St. Louis County.
If they were powerful, do you really think they would be the 2nd lowest paid teaching staff in all of St. Louis County?

ReplyAnonymous Coward Clown,
As CEO pay has hyperinflated from 50/1 to 500/1, regular folk wages have failed to keep up with cost and living expenses.
The only thing helping prop up wages is the stability of the public workforce.
Now folks at minimum wage do not earn a living wage. That's because minimum wage does not keep pace with inflation. If it did, minimum wage would be $22 a hour right now.
Good government and economies do not happen by accident. Good government and good economies happen with the ingenuity, risk, and creativity of capitalism as well as the foundation of an ethical and planned social minimum.
It's a matter of right and wrong, good and evil. Pure capitalism is good at a lot of things, but good and evil isn't one of them. That requires law established by the people and for the people.
I know this is all a little over your head though.

ReplyAnonymous Coward Clown,
The teachers pay 14.5% of their paycheck from day one into their retirement system. If you are jealous, you should have picked a different profession.

ReplyI think people are time and inflation deaf. They don't realize how fast time flies. Someone who made $30,000 in 1976 had the same buying power as someone who makes $100,000 a year now.
To people who are time and inflation deaf, $100,000 sounds like a millionaire and someone making $60,000 is, to them, like someone making $200,000 a year.
It's kind of like the spacial reasoning capacity of their brains are completely shut down. Still living in the 70s.
Especially the anonymous coward clown.
