Oakville Senior Complex: 8 Things You Need to Know for Tonight

In a rare move by St. Louis county government, the Planning and Zoning Commission re-opens the zoning of the land at 6050 Telegraph Road tonight.

Tonight is the night Oakville residents have been waiting for.

In a rare move by St. Louis county government, the Planning and Zoning Commission re-opens the zoning of the land at 6050 Telegraph Road tonight, giving Oakville residents, parents from the neighboring Goddard School of Oakville and the general public a chance to state their case: the planned three-story senior housing complex is the wrong choice for Oakville.

If you're heading to the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting tonight to speak for or against the housing complex's zoning, here are eight things you really need to know:

  1. The meeting is at 7 p.m. July 15 at St. Louis County Government Headquarters, 41 S. Central Avenue in Clayton, MO.
  2. It's going to be packed. If you come, plan to come early.
  3. Need a ride? Oakville neighbors are organizing a bus leaving at 5:45 p.m. from Christopher Rd & Telegraph Rd. Plan to board the bus at 5:30. Contact Mary McCartney at 314-877-9063 to reserve a spot. Contributions to reimburse McCartney are appreciated.
  4. If you want to speak to the commission, know you must fill out a card in advance, and plan to limit your comments to under two minutes. For a full guide to speaking to the commission, check out this brochure.
  5. Nothing will be decided tomorrow night. The commission will not take a vote. Even when the commission does vote, their decisions are not final until approved by the St. Louis County Council.
  6. The commission's vote on rezoning 6050 Telegraph Road will occur one week after Monday or later, depending on whether commissioners have questions.
  7. If you want to do more to get involved, sign the petition against the plan for the senior housing complex in Oakville.
  8. Share your thoughts with your neighbors by posting on Patch. Post a short note on the boards (which are just to the right of this screen!) or start a blog on Mehlville-Oakville Patch.
